Recap: PSAL Indoor Championships

Girls Recap

Medgar Evers' Brenessa Thompson may have been the meet’s most impressive athlete after winning in the 55m dash (7.05), 300m (38.43), and 4x200m relay (1:39.34)

Alyssa Sandy of Paul Robeson won the 55m hurdles in 8.19.

Benjamin Cardozo’s Emma Gallagher took the 600m in 1:32.01 just ahead of Amanda Crawford of Paul Robeson (1:32.52).  She went on to help her 4x400m relay team to a 3:55.16 victory. Gallagher’s training partner, Elizabeth Perez Bossut won the 3000m in a personal best time of 10:18.72.

Marie Jose Ebweabi, another Benjamin Cardozo athlete, recorded a big 19’ 4” leap in the long jump before winning the shot put with a toss of 38’ 5.75”and triple jump with 41’ 1.5”

Benjamin Cardozo won the Championship team title with 105 points. Medgar Evers was second with 70 points and Christopher Columbus Campus was third with 38.25 points.

 

Boys Recap

Stanley Pilorge had a big day, taking the 55m dash in 6.56 and helping James Madison win the 4x200m relay in a blazing time of 1:29.66.

Tyler Lewis of Medgar Evers recorded a win in the 55m hurdles. His 7.66 effort – over Kevaughn Gordon of Dewitt Clinton’s 7.75 – ranks as one of the fastest times of the season.

Kevon White of Springfield won the preliminary round of the 300m in 34.91, but it was Mergaran Poleon of Paul Robeson who won the final in a US number seven time of 33.98.

Richard Rose owns the nation’s fastest 600m time at 1:18.40. The Boys and Girls athlete looked to better his time during the meet, but finished in 1:20.72 for the win.  Kemarni Mighty of Clara Barton took second in 1:22.18.

Mighty’s teammate, Kareem Joseph, won the 1000m in an impressive time of 2:35.51. Joseph fought off Gairy Springer of Thomas Jefferson (2:35.52) and Nolan Nathaniel of Benjamin Banneker (2:35.95).

Midwood’s Jacob Zolotarevsky ran a personal best of 4:31.44 to win the 1600m.

Paul Robeson’s 4x400m relay squad edged out Clara Barton for the win. The two teams were on each other’s heels throughout most of the race, finishing in 3:21.12 and 3:21.21.

Traivon Gilchrist of Thomas Jefferson soared to 46’ 10.5” to take the triple jump over Adama Mbye of Taft Educational’s 46’ 1” effort. 

Thomas Jefferson Campus won the Championship in team scoring with 52 points. Susan Wagner was second with 40 points and Clara Barton was third with 38 points.
